NIA

So another red tape organisation has come into being as a result of efforts of the UPA govt. to add extra teeth to its efforts in the so called "war" against terrorism. NIA or the national Investigation agency Bill 2008 calls for establishing a federal agency with exclusive powers to concentrate on investigating terror crimes. Now the debate arises that at first glance what exactly is the purpose of this exhibition of preparedness for "Future" terrorist attacks. The glaring alacrity with which terror has struck parts of the nation that were in earlier years immune to attacks is not only worrisome but also points to the complete inaction by the government to formulate a strategy to address and root out terror. The UPA has the inglorious distinction of having witnessing under its reign the re-emergence of the Students Islamic Movement of India and emergence of new terrorist groups claiming such horrendous acts. The spate of terror attacks has not only let the nation be seen as a country soft on terror, but has also exposed a Government that lacks a coherent nation wide strategy to deal with internal acts of terror. The Prime Minister like on all other occasions has been found wanting in addressing the nation at a time of need. Numerous terror incidents have elicited a timid reaction from the premier and that too by way off a press statement or through officials in the PMO. This seeming lack of concern by Manmohan Singh not only further demoralizes the citizens of the country; they also strengthen the arms of the terror groups who see it as a government passive on Islamic terrorism. The lack of a coherent strategy on Islamic terrorism is also seen by some as the extension of the government pro-minority approach. For to adequately address the issue of Islamic fundamentalism, one would have to have a broad ranging discussion on religion, fanaticism and minority representation. These are all areas where the government would much rather maintain a stoic silence and criminal overlook rather than address the root cause of the problem. The tragedy of terrorism in India is not the fact that innocent lives are lost, but the fact that the government in the garb of “terror cannot affect our way of being” notion adopts a ‘back to normal’ approach within 24 hours. Terror attacks after terror attacks have shown the government address, at best, the incident in question, rather than formulate a strategy on how to handle this war that has been declared against the Indian State. With Kashmir fairly secure and peaceful over the past few years, the terror networks have tried to cast their net over the rest of India which has been evident in the sequence of attacks that took place in various parts of the nation at the will of the persons who commit such crimes. Now a terrorist has the guts to attack any area of any city of any state of the nation. And Lets look at the solution as devised by the UPA govt. which suddenly seems to have waken up with coming elections from the hibernation after the 26/11 mumbai attacks. What exactly is the motive behind identifying another intelligence body to fight this war? Then what would CBI or RAW do? Doesnt it seem to be a simple reaction of saving its image against the outburst of anger in Indian Public keeping in mind the coming elections. It seems like a damage control move on the government's part that has concentrated more on economics of the nation under the guidance of the economist prime minister. Unfortunately it failed in that arena of work also.
It is learnt that the powers vested to this agency curtails the rights of the citizens and can operate at the cost of governmental procedures and permissions. The Government should be aware of that but considering anyhow the unconventional nature of the enemy and the extraordinary circumstances in which the war is being waged it is too little a cost an indian would pay for Nations Security. But The Most Important question is if the current terror controlling measures are not sufficient the new move by the govt. should not a political fiasco . We need to have a organisation on US lines much like the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) . It should have its decision making body and should be independent in its operations. without the necessary expertise in the specialised focus of this department it could very well coverup the slumber of the UPA but not ensure sense of safety to the Indian citizen who pays for it and chooses whom to pay it to.
MY COMMENTS ON THIS BLOG

Well good analysis, but I think that instead of Islamic terrorism ,if only terrorism would have been mentioned that would have served the purpose.I just want to draw attention to few of the points mentioned by you.1-According to your opinion UPA has roped in new agency in the wake of upcoming elections but if you see the result of recently polled state in which the polling took place just after Mumbai attacks, Congress has won 3 out of 5 states so doesnt it mean that we the people of India are not worried about government's lack of concern on terror or in other terms we are not worried about terrorism at all until it strikes us.2- You mentioned about CBI and RAW.CBI only looks for economic related offences like hawala etc. and besides that there are lot of numerous other cases pending with CBI.Than RAW, I think the main function RAW is to collect external intelligence, information on foreign governments to advise our government etc.Don't you think that we need a special agency which should look after terrorism only because now Terrorism is not a part time job.3- About red tapes. We are not bothered about terrorism because uptill now we havent suffered yet.Ask those people who have suffered from this, wont they support some restrictions? Its better to have restrictions rather to face a gun.Well Terrorism is a big issue now and there are lot of factors involved. So it cant be solved overnight, but lets us first see hoe NIA works before criticizing it and that is what we best at OPTIMISM.

short story

Once upon a time, there was an island where all the feelings lived: Happiness, Sadness, Knowledge, and all of the others, including Love. One day it was announced to the feelings that the island would sink, so all constructed boats and left. Except for Love.Love was the only one who stayed. Love wanted to hold out until the last possible moment. When the island had almost sunk, Love decided to ask for help.Richness was passing by Love in a grand boat. Love said, "Richness, can you take me with you?"Richness answered, "No, I can't. There is a lot of gold and silver in my boat. There is no place here for you."Love decided to ask Vanity who was also passing by in a beautiful vessel. "Vanity, please help me!""I can't help you, Love. You are all wet and might damage my boat," Vanity answered.Sadness was close by so Love asked, "Sadness, let me go with you.""Oh . . . Love, I am so sad that I need to be by myself!"Happiness passed by Love, too, but she was so happy that she did not even hear when Love called her. Suddenly, there was a voice, "Come, Love, I will take you." It was an elder. So blessed and overjoyed, Love even forgot to ask the elder where they were going. When they arrived at dry land, the elder went her own way. Realizing how much was owed the elder, Love asked Knowledge, another elder, "Who Helped me?""It was Time," Knowledge answered."Time?" asked Love. "But why did Time help me?"Knowledge smiled with deep wisdom and answered, "Because only Time is capable of understanding how valuable Love is."

story

"A son and his father were walking on the mountains.Suddenly, his son falls, hurts himself and screams: "AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"To his surprise, he hears the voice repeating, somewhere in the mountain: "AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"Curious, he yells: "Who are you?"He receives the answer: "Who are you?"And then he screams to the mountain: "I admire you!"The voice answers: "I admire you!"Angered at the response, he screams: "Coward!"He receives the answer: "Coward!"He looks to his father and asks: "What's going on?"The father smiles and says: "My son, pay attention."Again the man screams: "You are a champion!"The voice answers: "You are a champion!"The boy is surprised, but does not understand. Then the father explains: "People call this ECHO, but really this is LIFE.It gives you back everything you say or do.Our life is simply a reflection of our actions. If you want more love in the world, create more love in your heart. If you want more competence in your team, improve your competence. This relationship applies to everything, in all aspects of life;Life will give you back everything you have given to it."

bomb blasts and elites

Hypocrisy of elite class to give slogans like" ENOUGH IS ENOUGH".where were they when mumbai trains were bombed, where was the candle light vigil then. They want all mumbaikars to be part of their theatre just bcos the terror strated entering their houses. No doubt what has happened is bad but the train blast was even worse. The elite did not bother to open their mouth bcos the dead people were aam aadmi.Stop this Hypocrisy Mr. elite class. Enough is enough. U corrupted the system by corrupting the political class as well as police equally.

Terrorist struck again
Last last night local time bombs of terror struck specifificly intented targets around Bombay. Most targets were picked because of the high concentration of foreigns staying there. The two hotels that were bombed and later the scene of hostage situationsn are the luxury Taj Mahal Hotel and the Oberoi Trident.
Will this scare the tourists away?
All day we have heard about the hostage situation on the news. I man who got out of one of the hotels told about how the terrorists had asked people with american and british pasports to step forward. This could only start speculations on how these western-hating terrorists would treat the western pasport owners.
Terrorists from India?
One of the alarming aspects of some recent terror attacks in India is that Indian-born Muslims were involved. This only shows the religious fanaticism will use every means to try to make a statement. These Indian Indian Mujahideen are willing to kill country men, which was done when bombing the train station.
Fatal financial consequenses
I truely belive that this attack will have great influence on the Indian economy ii the future. I think that many tourists in the future will keep out of India. This being a country where there still are great gaps between rich and poor, the lacking tourism will most likely hit the poor the worst.

mumbai terror attacks

The recent terrorist attack in Mumbai has left a big scar and doubt about Indian security and intelligence failure. A continuous attacks in the past has also fuelled the speculations abou India's failure .How can it be that the terrorists holed up for three days against NSG, MARCOS, Army, ATS and Maharashtra Police , all parts of Indian elite security services. Neither the significant hostages were saved nor the terrorists were killed for three days. It seems the terrorists are hitting us at their will, where ever they want, when ever they want. How the Government can fail so many times in succession. Is the fault lie with Government , security forces or us.
Its time to think.
